About the project
The project ‘Impacts of European and International Law on the National Legal Order – Challenges of Adaptation for a Democratic State’ will, through a complex multi-level analysis with a dominant focus on the area of public law, and in particular on issues of building and strengthening the procedural and substantive components of the rule of law and the protection of human rights, with the participation of a wide range of competent researchers and experts in various legal branches, offer scientifically based answers to questions regarding the challenges and opportunities that the requirements of harmonization of legal orders and successful participation of the Republic of Croatia in the European integration process and the entire international community pose to the institutions of the Croatian state and its citizens.
The analysis of relevant sources of EU and international law and positive legal sources of Croatian law, including in particular the practice of European and Croatian courts, will enable the identification of key areas in which further harmonization and strengthening of the national normative framework is necessary.
The research will also cover recent challenges in the field of legal regulation (such as artificial intelligence, strengthening the democratic resilience of the state and the fight against terrorism) and will enable the creation of proposals for improving the national legal system, and will particularly highlight the importance of harmonized interpretation and application of law, which contributes to both strengthening legal certainty and understanding and realization of strategic goals and priority areas of public policies defined by various national strategies and development plans.
